The Low Range DO Meter

The low-range dissolved oxygen meter performs among the most critical of beer quality checks - brite and package DO. Ensuring minimal oxygen ingress during clarification and packaging will provide the largest impact on the flavor stability of beer, and the low-range DO meter helps troubleshoot the source of this ingress.
Low-range in this case refers to approximately 2-2000 ppb (under 2 ppm), as many breweries have final packaged beer specifications in the < 100-200 ppb range. These low-range instruments are typically optical instruments, measuring a particular wavelength of light given off by oxygen when exposed to another wavelength of light. There are instruments targeting the brewing industry, such as those provided by Anton-Parr and Pentair Haffmans, that are easier to set up and operate. Others, such as in-line models from Mettler-Toledo, are more friendly on the budget but at the cost of more involved set up and operation.
