With Fusarium head blight posing a real threat to the barley crop, ASBC members and others using or processing malt are concerned with the possible presence of deoxynivalenol (also known as DON or vomitoxin) in barley, malt, and brewed products. AACC, which shares headquarters with ASBC, offers a quarterly check sample series for mycotoxins, designated as MYCO in the AACC Laboratory Proficiency Rating Program. This sample is offered to ASBC members through the AACC Laboratory Proficiency Rating Program.
Series
Samples of mixed, ground grains are naturally (but heavily) contaminated with analyzable levels of aflatoxin, deoxynivalenol, and fumonisin. Four different samples, varying in levels of contamination, are sent to subscribers on a quarterly basis.
