This two-part webinar focused on data management.

The overabundance of data is a common occurrence in many small to mid-size craft breweries. This webinar is intended to start the conversation about data collection, and show examples of how different-sized breweries approach data collection and integration.

Analyzing data is complicated with data being spread out across numerous spreadsheets and documents with many staff members recording data. This webinar will start the conversation about data collection and show examples of how a few different sized breweries approach data collection and integration.

The first webinar explores the following:

• Philosophy of data collection and multiple data streams
• Data is organizing
• When data should be collected
• What information to collect

The second webinar focused on data integration and analysis. The webinar will cover the following:

• We will discuss different software options that exist that help analyze data
• How to use the analysis to answer problems

About the Presenters

Brian Faivre started homebrewing while in college using a kit, he purchased from a mail-order catalog in 1994. Throughout his college years, Brian continued his true passion for making beer at home. After 5 years working as a software engineer, Brian took his first professional brewing job at a small pub in San Francisco. Two years later, Brian attended the UC Davis Master Brewers Program and earned his Diploma in Brewing from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling. After finishing the UC Davis Master Brewers Program, Brian joined Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon as a Production Brewer. In 2011 Brian was promoted to Brewmaster where he currently oversees all brewhouse and cellar operations.

Drew Russey has been the Laboratory Manager at Saint Arnold Brewing Company since 2015. In this role, he oversees digital data entry, organization, and analysis ensuring full integration of data recorded from raw material CoA's through to Sensory Panel scorings. He has presented talks and co-led workshops on brewery data management and analysis using the open-source R programming language. He earned his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Houston for his work on the adaptive evolution of multivariate, functional traits resulting from natural and artificial selection.

This webinar is for anyone in production management, quality management, and anyone in the brewery that is responsible for data entry, organization, and management.
